This role provides timely, comprehensive mental health interventions, including screenings, assessments, counseling, crisis support, and other therapeutic supports, to young people within the juvenile detention facility using trauma-informed care as well as social justice and equity lenses.

This is a part-time, on-site position, with day/swing and/or weekend shifts (20-28 hours a week). You must be able to pass a King County Detention criminal background check.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Meet with newly admitted youth within 24 hours to screen and assess for existing mental health needs and risks.
  • Complete comprehensive assessments and evaluations of each client using a culturally-attuned, bio-psycho-social approach.
  • Develop individualized, goal-oriented, and strengths-based treatment plans for each client agreeing to engage in therapy, utilizing variety of modalities including individual and group therapy, case management, substance use disorder counseling, recovery support, crisis management and safety planning, and other social/emotional supports.
  • In collaboration with detention staff and other health center members, create a therapeutic plan for each youth to ensure a coordinated, informed approach to youth.
  • Coordinate with direct supervisor, detention staff, Children’s Crisis Outreach Services (CCORS), and King County Designated Crisis Responder (DCR) to provide urgent interventions for youth needing a higher level of care than what is available in detention.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, social work, counseling, or related field.
  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain relevant WA Department of Health license to provide behavioral health diagnosis and treatment (e.g. LICSWA, LMHCA, LMFTA, etc.).
  • Acceptance and ability to work with individuals and families with a variety of lifestyles, behaviors, cultural and spiritual practices with the ability to apply a social justice and equity lens to all aspects of this work.
